look out – image lab entwurf–gesicht–identitätin – the human face is elusive and often mask-like, with a set of well-practiced expressions for a standard range of emotions. this poses a great challenge in portrait photography when trying to capture the individual, in a natural or uninhibited state. while asleep, the emotional changes of the face are reduced to their minimum, free of influence from the individual. this series of portraits attempts to study this issue by taking pictures of four members of a family, while in a state of sleep. – in collaboration with eikones and ivk hgk basel.
