look out – image lab entwurf–gesicht–identitätin – it is generally believed that human emotions are communicated through facia expressions, therefore most investigations of these emotions have concentrated on images of the face. In this series of photographs, eight individuals are shown posing before the camera, unaware of the sponge that is going to be thrown at them. Through the repetition of this action, a pattern of unconscious body reactions can be captured, as each model reveals a unique and instinctual way of reacting to the thrown object. This series of photographs reveals that body posture may be as important as the face in communicating emotions such as fear. – in collaboration with eikones and ivk hgk basel.
